It's the Thought That Counts

Mr. Frank: You're looking good, Doll Face. How are you feeling?

Lilly Faye: My gums are still a little sore, but I'm feeling much better, Frank. Thanks for asking.

Mr. Frank: I have a little surprise for you. It's a get well gift.

Lilly Faye: Oooh, I love surprises! Is it candy? Flowers? A cute little charm for my collar?

Mr. Frank: It's soup.

Lilly Faye: Soup?

Mr. Frank: Cream of Pea and Broccoli Soup. It's my own recipe.

Lilly Faye: Oh. That's very thoughtful, Frank. Although, it sounds a bit gassy.

Mr. Frank: Don't worry about that, Doll. You're among friends.

Later, at the back fence...

Cali: I think having Frank cook for you sounds romantic, Lilly Faye.

Lilly Faye: I guess you had to be there.

Lilly Faye's Book Review: Every Night, Josephine! by Jacqueline Susann

Dear Readers,

I've been busy reading while recovering from my recent surgery.

For starters, I revisited one of my favorite books of all time, Every Night, Josephine! by Jacqueline Susann.

You're probably thinking I look too young and innocent to read Jacqueline Susann, who shocked readers in the 1960s with her scandalous and iconic novel, Valley of the Dolls.

What you may not know is that Jacqueline Susann's first published book was a heartwarming and witty memoir about her beloved poodle, Josephine.

Jacqueline and her husband, Irving Mansfield, were both in show business, and living in a residential hotel in New York City in the 1950s. They knew absolutely nothing about dogs. Irving claimed he didn't even like them! But Jacqueline got it in her head that she wanted a poodle, and as with everything else in her life, nothing was going to stop her.

Of course, once Josephine entered their lives, the Mansfields didn't stand a chance. Josephine, a black toy and miniature cross, took over their lives and their hearts, wrapping both Jacqueline and Irving around her little paw.

Over the course of her long life, Josephine used her charms on everyone she came in contact with, including movie stars and live television audiences!

This is the story of true love. I highly recommend it.

Love,
Lilly Faye

Dishin' With Diz...Dizzie Takes Over the Blog

Dizzie: Hello there, Readers! Unpaid blog intern Dizzie here, filling in for my Boss, who is recovering from surgery.

First, I'd like to assure you there is no truth to the tabloid rumors that The Boss has had cosmetic surgery, specifically a jowl lift and chin implant to give her muzzle a more distinct and youthful line.

Alfie Cat: I heard she had gum surgery and a few teeth removed.

Dizzie: Either way, she has left me in charge of the blog, so let's get started!

Items in the news...Weird Al Yankovic's new album, Mandatory Fun, a parody of several contemporary artists' latest hits, is the number one album on the Billboard 200 chart. It's the first comedy album to reach number one since 1963. Quite a feat!

Apparently, a new generation of listeners is discovering Weird Al for the first time.

Alfie Cat: Like us.

Dizzie: Right you are, Alfie. Plus, I really dig Weird Al's hairstyle.

Dizzie: Also in the news, scientists are claiming dogs feel jealousy, just like humans. This is bunk. We canines are above petty jealousies...excuse me, Alfie, that is MY spot on the sofa. You can't have it!

Hold on, The Boss is Skyping me.

Lilly Faye (via Skype): Diz, be sure to tell my loyal readers that I'm on the mend and will be back soon.

Dizzie: You can tell them yourself, Boss.

Lilly Faye: Oh, dear dawg, are we live on the Internet? Turn the feed off now! I don't want the entire world to see me looking less than my best, and in my pink nightie to boot!

Blog transmission interrupted, but not before...

Mr. Frank: Whoa, Doll Face looks HOT in pink!

Mixed Signals

Cali: I can hardly believe it, Lilly Faye!

Lilly Faye: It's true. The other day, after Frank kissed me, he nibbled on my ear!

Cali: Boy, he moves fast. After all, he's only been living next door to you for a couple of weeks. Does this mean you two are dating now?

Lilly Faye: Well, he hasn't asked me out yet.

Cali: You know how males are. You'll have to put the bug in his ear, let him know you'd enjoy going out to dinner with him. But let him think it's his idea.

Lilly Faye: I believe I will.

Later that evening...

Lilly Faye: Hello, Frank.

Mr. Frank: Hi there, Doll Face. You're looking good.

Lilly Faye: Thank you, Frank.

Gosh, I'm starving. It's almost dinner time, and I'm so tired of just opening a can. Do you know of any good restaurants around here where a girl could get a nice meal?

Mr. Frank: Afraid not. I do all my own cooking. I'm very particular about my food. Tonight, for instance, I'm making Beef Tips Au Jus, Sauteed Garden Vegetables, and Fresh Asparagus Risotto.

Lilly Faye: That sounds delicious. I had no idea you could cook.

Mr. Frank: Oh yeah, cooking is a real passion of mine. In fact, I only came out here to pick a few herbs. I need to get back to the stove now. See you around, Doll Face.

Lilly Faye: That didn't go at all the way I planned.

Later that night, after dinner...

Mr. Frank: I can't believe Doll Face eats out of cans! Maybe I shouldn't rush into anything with her.

Getting to Know You

Lilly Faye: So Frank, do you mind answering a few questions?

Mr. Frank: I already filled out your blog questionnaire for my "Meet Mr. Frank" page.

Lilly Faye: This is different. It's a compatibility quiz I found in this month's issue of Celebrity Canine Magazine.

Mr. Frank: Compatibility with what?

Lilly Faye: With each other, to see if you and I have anything in common.

Mr. Frank: Okay, I'll give it a shot.

Lilly Faye: Good. Do you like movies?

Mr. Frank: Love 'em.

Lilly Faye: Great! Me, too! Do you enjoy car rides?

Mr. Frank: Oh, yeah, with the windows rolled down and the wind in my face!

Lilly Faye: Excellent! I love riding in fast convertibles, myself.
Do you dance?

Mr. Frank: I can do a little two-step. Nothing too fast.

Lilly Faye: Oh. I like to rumba. I guess two out of three isn't so bad.

Mr. Frank: We don't need a magazine to tell us if we're compatible, Doll. Come to Mr. Frankie...

Mr. Frank: Smooch!

Later, at the back fence...

Cali: And then he did WHAT?

Dating Dilemma

Cali: So Lilly Faye, how's the dating going?

Lilly Faye: It isn't! Mr. Frank is scaring away all my potential suitors. It's very frustrating.

Cali: Maybe he wants you for himself.

Lilly Faye: He seems more interested in protecting my virtue.

Cali: Ha! He doesn't know you very well, does he?

Lilly Faye: Maybe that's the answer. He needs to get to know me better. Thanks, Cali! You've given me an idea.

To be continued...

Lilly Faye's Movie Review: Le Week-End, starring Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan, and Jeff Goldblum

Dear Readers,

Dizzie, Alfie, and I recently watched Le Week-End, starring Jim Broadbent as Nick, Lindsay Duncan as Meg, and Jeff Goldblum as Nick's friend Morgan.

Nick and Meg are an English couple celebrating their thirtieth wedding anniversary in Paris, France, where they spent their honeymoon. The trip to Paris is an attempt to reinvigorate their marriage. The question is, how much trouble is their marriage in, and can it be saved?

Alfie Cat: And, do they have enough money for dinner?

Lilly Faye: Morgan, Nick's old American friend, helps put it all in perspective for them. Morgan's much younger wife and teenage son also provide Nick and Meg with food for thought.

Le Week-End was filmed on location in Paris, and watching the movie is like taking a quick trip to Paris yourself.

Dizzie: Boss, don't forget to mention Le Week-End has a lovely soundtrack. Debussy: Clair de Lune, Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone, and Pink Moon by Nick Drake!

(Diz sings) "Pink, pink, moon..." I can't get that song out of my head!

Dizzie: Boss, do you think I'm a tenor or a baritone?

Lilly Faye: You're a tenor, Diz.

Alfie Cat: I'm an alto, if anyone would care enough to ask.

Lilly Faye: Le Week-End is a lovely film, perfect for a hot summer night.

This trailer will give you a good feel for the movie:
